A NEW DAWN
Nigeria is gradually coming out of sleep once again to the reality of the transient nature of the black gold (oil) and the permanence of agriculture in the need to save the country from economic and social collapse.
It is now time for DIVERSIFICATION OF THE ECONOMY into Agriculture.
The clarion call is not for government to start establishing farms and seed companies but to create the enabling environment for all inhabitants of the country and foreign investors alike to go into agriculture as livelihood business. To aid this call, the Federal government over the years has and continues to put in place agricultural developmental intervention schemes in terms of networking and funding through local and International Developmental Organisations and government development financing agencies collaborating with the private sector finance organisations.
The Research Institutes are bracing up and releasing improved technologies to enhance productivity and make agriculture less strenuous. Other government and private sector stakeholders in the agricultural value chain are also embracing the message of hope.
It is not an easy task to galvanise a prime, technical and nature based economic sector that has been in neglect for over four decades, in a country of over 180 million people in a total land area of 356,667 sq. mile (923,768 sq. km)
The first step for the success of this call is to create awareness through out the length and breath of the country of the new status of agriculture, the infrastructures and support services available for those interested and the continuous dissemination of information on the activities of the whole value chain.
In this blog therefore, I will be taking you through Agriculture in Nigeria, news and events, tutorials on the different enterprises, agro products and their availability, government and private intervention schemes you can take advantage of. I am also ready to answer your questions or refer you to other experts in the field. And a lot more.
You are welcome.
Have a great day.
